Downie Hut
Nelson Lakes National Park
Downie Hut is an old board and batten hut with a large open fire place. The original shingle roof now has corrugated iron over the top of it. The hut is a bit draughty and dark compared with modern huts but can be made very comfortable.

Up or down the Matakitaki River valley. 4x4 motorbike access is possible from downstream when the river is low. The DOC walking time guideline from the carpark at the dairy farm on the TR is 5hrs. |
