Old corrugated iron shack on the North-South Track, one of several humble abodes that avoided the axe. Small but comfortable. Water supply is now from the stream next to the clearing.

3 hours walk from the Kaimai Road Summit, between Tauranga and Matamata. A rough track starts from the carpark directly opposite the spring. No signposts are here, just cross the creek, and look around for the obvious track heading north, and old permolat markers. After tackling the hill, it's all flat, grassy tramline tracks. Once over the Hurunui Stream, approx. 3 hours on, there's a signpost. The sign to the hut is gone, but by bushwhacking for 5 minutes the longdrop appear, and then, the hut |
