Top Gorge Hut

Top Gorge Hut (2 bunks, 3 mattresses, open fire with ample firewood available, river water) is a small, basic hut above the river flat of the Pohangina River.

The hut can be reached via river walking/bush bashing from Longview Hut (2776751,6134659.8), while not a hard tramp, it is not recommended to trampers unfamiliar to river crossings. An old also route drops from Rocky Point to the next ridge south of the hut.

It can also be reached by crossing the tops of the Ngamoko Range from Iron Gate Hut (2770718,6137763.3) which climbs steeply to moderate and becomes more gradual before skirting around 2 slips. You then continue along the tops until you come to the trig point, then following the trail, you drop down into the valley, where you then cross the river and proceed into the hut.

Finally the hut is accessible up the river from leon Kinvig. The gorge 2km below the hut can eb passed ont he true right - intermittent permolat markers are present.
