Top Gorge Hut

Top Gorge Hut (2 bunks, 3 mattresses, open fire with ample firewood available, river water) is a small, basic hut above the river flat of the Pohangina River.

Most commonly reached from Kashmir Rd via Longview Hut. Two options from Longview: down the river walking/bush bashing - not a hard tramp, but not recommended for trampers unfamiliar to river crossings. Alternatively an old marked route drops from Rocky Point down the next ridge south of the hut.

Also often reached from Petersons Rd / Heritage Hut via Tunupo highpoint.

From Iron Gate Hut a track climbs steeply, moderating before skirting around 2 slips. Continuing south along the tops you come to the trig point, a signposted trail drops steeply down into the valley, marked through the bush. Cross the river to reach the hut.
