Studholme Saddle Hut (sleeps 6, river water, wood burning stove, firewood available in locality). Is a comfortable, sheltered, riveride hut in a small area of bush just below Mad Dog Hill, and close to the main Kaweka Peak. The hut is less than 1km from Studholme Saddle Biv, which lies further downstream at the river fork. The location is a sun-trap and was pleasently warm after freezing cloud on the tops. I imagine it is roasting on a hot summer's day.

The route down from Mad Dog is not obvious: the route from the track on the summit is signposted: down the ridge immediately to the east of the hut. However, the point at which the route leaves the ridge is not obvious. Drops west off the ridge immediately above the point where the bush in the valley begins. Markers begin again on the bushedge leading to the hut.

A good route to Kaiarahi leads up the ridge opposite (south of) Studholme Saddle Biv.
