An older huts lower than the bush line. It has a cast-iron fire, two platforms for sleeping quarter. It holds around 10 people.

Basic but nice.

Steady 2.5-5hrs climb which crosses over 2 swingbridges, the 2nd one has a bit of height in it though

Getting there
Getting there
Is from the end of Mangatainoka valley road near Eketahuna. Half the track is the same as the one going to Roaring Stag Lodge.

A good ridgeline route runs south to Dundas. Heading north to Herepai the ridgeline becomes scrubby, but was largely recut through the leatherleaf in 2013 and is currently passable, if a little rough.
