6 Mar 2013 | Good to have some real huts in Rimutakas. This one gets a bit more use than Wharepapa and both times I've visited there's been discarded offal / carcass remains in the clearing - a pity. Ridgeline to Wharepapa is very overgrown & lots of windfall: tough. Waiorongomai riverbed up & down Pakuratahi to railtrail was a nice, but challenging walk, all doable on valley floor. There are several natural log-dams to negotiate on both rivers - I wouldn't want to be in the riverbed after heavy rain when one of them burst... | |
