Boyle Village - Mt Faust - Boyle Hut

The track sign halfway uphill from the Adventure playground has now been rotated so that it correctly points up- & down-hill. Otherwise, take the RHS track. Circle ridge clockwise & left of the features. rough track is apparent. Correct spur down to BF Hut isn't apparent until you start to descend Faust and get behind pt1661. Only found 3 markers, then nothing until within shouting distance of Hut. Stay left of centre down the spur, without going into the big valley, and you come out at the Hut woodshed. Soft ground and fairly open. Hardly 'bush bashing'

If you do this in reverse, you have the advantage of a well-marked track at the end of the day (if you're running out of daylight). Also by starting the traverse of Faust at the Boyle Hut end, you do 200m less height gain. Of course some people might prefer to do more height gain and less descent. If you do the traverse on the second day, your pack will also be lighter because you will have eaten a whole day's worth of food already. There is the very occasional white marker, some with a red reflective add-on on the way down to Boyle Hut from the summit of Faust between the bushline and where the DoC markers start. Not sure why they didn't finish the job. A couple of friends of mine thought they'd lost the track and ended up descending off-track (bush-bashing) through open forest down to Boyle Hut in the dark at the end of the day.
