Grassy Flat Hut

1 Feb 2015 | On a recent visit to this hut I noticed that there is now a memorial plaque inside commemorating Christopher Clarke of Ohio, USA who died in the Browning Pass area in 2006. There is also an interpretation panel with photos of huts that have been on Grassy Flat over years. DOC call the current hut the third one but is actually at least the fourth that has been there that I know of. They have missed Heslan's Hut that used to be a bit further East on the flat than the others. (It was no longer there in 1971 when I first visited but I've heard it survived in to the 1960's) In the early days Heslan had a licence to graze stock on the flat. | |
