Beware the stairs

Track just been cleared and new track markers up, including large markers at river crossings. Saw two families of Whio with one and two chicks.

Arrived here along the Mangakino Pack Track.
This track is officially closed but you won't find that out till you get to all the Heli bags and half finished boardwalks about an hour out.
Friendly DOC contractors told us there is supposed to be a closed sign at the Te Aroha end of the track, we didn't come that way so were surprised.
DOC contractors told us the track is closed for a few months, check with DOC before coming that way.

Not very wet track, mud above the ankle at most 3 times, locals said no rain in 2 weeks.
Trampers at hut on the Bell track nearly turned back because of mud however.
