Honora visited Mansion Hut 21 July 201821 July 2018		Stopped in for lunch. Needs toilet. Dark little hut but no doubt a welcome refuge.
Honora visited Cromel Branch Hut 20 July 201820 July 2018		Another smoky fireplace. Southland needs to come to Canterbury to learn how to fix this. These huts need vents in the floor at the fireplace and a bigger throat plus a cowl at the outlet.
Honora visited Irthing Hut (Irthing Biv) 19 July 201819 July 2018		Fireplace smokes like a b.....d. Not much fun in July, having to keep the door and window open. Mind you the door has a massive gap which I stuffed with a towel I found there.
Honora visited Mt Bee Hut Complex 18 July 201818 July 2018		Great wee pot belly stove in kitchen. Scrub around hut provides fuel.
Honora visited Poulter Hut 3 June 20183 June 2018		Still in its spot waiting for a shift. Very cosy hut with lots of available firewood due to a big tree coming down. Currently there is an axe in the woodshed and a saw.
Honora visited Caroline Creek Bivvy 8 April 20188 April 2018		Visited by DoC personnel in April, 2018. Broken door padlock noted by me in hut book soon after. I suspect DoC would like to make this asset disappear before long i.e. it will become derelict through intentional neglect.
Honora visited Waiau Hut 7 April 20187 April 2018		Well insulated. Plenty of firewood at the moment with the surrounding bush having been trimmed back. Upstream there is a flood track on the true right if you're going to Caroline Stream biv. This track entrance is poorly marked at both ends. Look for orange cruise tape.
Honora visited Upper Nina Biv 17 March 201817 March 2018		Someone (bless them) is going to be renovating this hut. They have cleared a large area of adjacent bush as part of the preparations.

Double Crossing of Ben Ohau from Freds Stream

Double Crossing of Ben Ohau from Freds Stream • Did this in snow. Frank deliberately initiated a snow slide to trigger an avalanche into the basin for our descent into the Dobson. We rode the debris down quite low to the scrub.
