One day in, one day out!

Hey everyone, I'm a new user. Me and a friend want to see some of a track for Xmas. We are limited in time at the moment and so only want to walk for two days. I was thinking of either tramping the Rees-Dart or Greenstone/Caples doing one day in, then one day back out. So I have a few questions... Are these tracks a good idea if we are only going to see 8 hours or so worth of track per day? If so, which of these would you do, and going in which direction? If not, can you recommend another good track that we could walk for a day and pitch a tent (preferably light a fire and be able to fish), but whatever. Anyway, we are open to all suggestions except Routeburn as I tramped that last year. Thanks! Josh

I found the whole Greenstone/Caples dull to be honest, but thats just me! Jemslie, I still suggest the West Matukituki. Heaps of camping in the upper valley and the trout fishing is pretty good in the river.
If the choice is the Rees, Dart, Caples or Greenstone then I would have to say the Dart is probably the best to go in, camp somewhere and then come out. As has been said the Caples or Greenstone are a little dull, the first 4 hours or so of the Rees are on Rees Valley Station amongst cows and mud. The Dart would be best up from Chinaman's bluff
There's a rock bivvy above cattle flat on the Dart. That must be about 6 hrs or more from Chinamans bluff.. Lots of room for camping. Mind the sandflies though. Ruth Flat on the East Matukituki may be a good option too.

thanks everyone, good advice. will be back here for sure!
