St James

Hi, Has anybody done much walking on the new St James Conservation Area (apart form the St James Walkway)? There seem to be a few options... * Fowlers Pass-Lake Guyon-Maling Pass, 2 days * Muddy Stream, 2 days * Fowlers Pass-Stanley River-Edwards River, 3(?) days * Maling Pass-Waiau Pass and back, 3(?) days Not a lot of info from DOC at this stage other than a general "We bought it so get into it!"

Went over Moss Pass a number of years ago. From recollection there is a section of scree and maybe a short scramble near the top. No need for a rope. What I recall best was stopping for lunch in the tussock basin on the far side, drinking cups of tea brewed from mountain water on a sunny day. It was heavenly.
Lewis Pass - Caroline Bivvy - Waiau Pass - Moss Pass - Upper D'Urville - Matakitaki Valley via David Saddle and Three Tarns - Lewis Pass circuit is a possibility. Thanks.
