What tent do you use
Im looking for a small, lightweight 1 0r 2 person tent to take on adventures.
My spec's:
up to 1.7kg, 1 or 2 person, good waterproofness, longer length (Im 6'3"), free standing?, less than $700
What kind/brand/type of tent do you carry, if you in fact carry one, I am looking for some suggestions based on your own experience.
Cheers

Macpac Microlight: a mate of mine swears by it.
1 person, or 2 tiny people
1.4 kg
often on sale for about $350
very waterproof and good stability in strong winds. You could call it a 3+ season tent.
Personally I use a flat tarp 3m x 3m when below the bushline, with some sort of insect protection such as a bivy bag or head net.
Cuben fibre is very light and very strong and pretty pricy, but is also very prone to abrasion damage to the Mylar skin that makes up the outer layers of the sandwich. This leads to water seeping through the material.
Cuben tents have been used quite successfully in NZ for a through-hike of the Te Araroa trail, see http://zpacks.com/about.shtml.
Hi Guys
Good discussion on tents, check us out if you want information on Hilleberg Tents

A few years back I bought a Nemo Obi 1Person tent & have found it good so far. The weight would fit your less than 1.7kg criteria tho length may be tight? Head room is good as far as one man tents go.
You can get a seperate footprint (groundsheet) a well as the mesh inner tent that has a floor, fly, & self supporting poles. The tent is rated 3 season+ but I wouldn't recommend it for snow or very cold conditions.
The beauty about this combo is you can just take or pitch what you need. i.e. just fly & footprint (0.9kg), just the tent only or tent & footprint, or the works tent, plus fly, plus footprint. It's so light I usually carry the works as I like the bugproofness these days and the extra groundsheet takes up little space.
Google Nemo Obi & see what you think.
got a terra nova Photon , bout 800 gms, not a lot of head room, but don't notice it in the pack. been ok out on the tops, so far.
the pegs a pathetic, bout some aluminium ones.

My mate has a good one, i think its black diamond. the only down side is that you need a hiking pole to be able to use it.
The zpacks cuben tent had a low profile so wouldn't catch the wind but you'd have to be particular about where you pitched it. It was gossamer light and we thought it was a mesh tent inner at first glance.
