Is it time to pull the plug?

Ive avoided advertising a different site here for so long esspecially one associated with facebook but today this seems the best option although it doesnt hold anything like the hut and route info. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1678617252359271/

One of the best things about this site is that it allows me to still deny the lure of Facebook.

The site has become almost useless in terms of adding and accessing new content. Most of the really on to it and useful people have disappeared presumably due to frustration with spam. Still, I really hope it doesn't disappear. Old and extremely useful content still shows up if you use google. I just searched for Gillespies Pass winter and got some very useful (2019) information from the likes of Madpom, Yarmoss, Honora, along with suggestions of more sensible places to go in the dead of winter. I doubt that information from such authoritative sources is available or preserved elsewhere. Some thought should be given to at least preserving the existing information even if it becomes fossilized. A huge thank you to Matthew for creating a repository for all this content, it's sad to watch it dying but hopefully something can be preserved.

I wonder if it would help if on the Forums Page that instead of having a “Latest in the forums”, the page only has the Forums menu, directing a user to enter a specific forum before posting (e.g. The Campfire, Buy/sell/exchange, etc.). It may be a small deterrent by causing that extra step. Another idea that has been mentioned before is to prevent a new user from posting on the forums for a limited time (even a day). Again, it could be a deterrent in that a spammer may be less prone to posting if they have to wait a certain period before posting their bs.

aside from the spam its a mission to stay signed in... change pages and it signs me out... its been too difficult for too long, i came back looking to see if things had changed, unfortunately not... its a great resource , ruined by spambots... i found far more hostility here if i disagreed with anyone than almost any other forum on the internet, even far bigger forums , i was never abusive, i just stated my opinions and got shot down for it over and over... i did have a lot of trouble dealing with very hostile anti 1080 people on my facebook group. but i could filter them out i approached matthew about the hostility, one person was making outright lies about me and matthew wouldnt do anything , his answer is for the user to block the other persion, but that doesnt stop them from saying whatever they want on the forum, being abusive about other people
