I tramp mostly in the Tararua range north of Wellington. A top place to get away from it all. Its not uncommon to be there for a few days and not see a single person... but you may also end up sharing a hut with 15 school kids! Just spent some time in the South Island (I can vouch for a Mid-May Routeburn as its reasonably quiet) and want to do a lot more tramping down there. Work in IT and certainly find tramping a good way to get away from such a frustrating industry. Interested in photography while tramping and brewing beer (not while tramping!).
