since i walked the Milford track in the mid nineties, tramping has opened this country to me and my eyes to a wonderland, many trails have followed till arriving in Karamea some years ago. I now work and live at Rongo Backpackers, 16 kms from the start of the Heaphy track and close to 25km from the Wangapeka. The Kahurangi National Park is my playground, it is a special place. a simple living off the land, with many innovative ideas, thinking outside of the square and now resourceful. I do not enjoy describing myself as I am not in a dating situation, tramping is adventure, it is felt through experience, shared with others of similar passion, as for what I get from it, the beauty of the outdoors, the flora and fauna and the cooking of freez dri food, camping or sharing a hut near a mountain pass, so get out of your car and walk for an excellent adventure.
