I read a lot about tramping jacket....what about rain poncho....
we plan to be in NZ (north and south) next april.
Thanks
Ponchos and jackets each have their place. One concern with a poncho would be wind and/or wind driven rain. It can get very windy here on short notice and rain varies from drizzles to sheeting down in buckets.
Good luck with your research and I hope you have a nice time in NZ.
Okay for tracks in the bush. No good for off-track travel, and certainly a poor choice above the bushline.
Dont buy to much gear untill you get here,as you will be more likely to get the right stuff. Me personaly, I would go for a goretex type jacket. You may think that its an overkill, but when the weather turns bad on you, you will be so glad you have it.
I agree, would not like to be in a poncho with some of the wind we are having this weekend!
The lostone's advice seem to me excellent....do you have some recommandations. Here, in Canada, the tramper(long ) style is not available......
Where are you flying into NZ? Auckland or Christchurch? It would be good if some forum members from AK or CHCH could recommend a reputable retailer for you.
we will land in Auckland next april.....
Thanks
