There's also High Misadventure, by Paul Hersey, which I found very readable. They're both good books.
Referring back to page 3 of this thread, here's a SAR-connected statement from this morning that tourist rescues have been increasing.

It'd still be helpful to see some clear numbers about what's changing over time instead of just stateents. Even with this statement, the actual number quoted shows only 1400 of 9000 incidents involve tourists. I'm sure there's reason to suspect that the tourist call-outs result on more trouble and effort, and maybe it's increasing over time, but there seems to be nothing objective and quantitative being provided to back that up.
Just finished reading the Survived! book. Some interesting experiences though I wouldn't say it provides any ground breaking relvalations on survival.
