  • "A first trailer has been released for the star-studded movie of the 1996 Mt Everest tragedy where New Zealand climbers Rob Hall and Andy Harris died.... (Jan, Rob Halls wife) Arnold said she felt very positive about the movie as it was the first time input had been sought from those who had a New Zealand perspective on what happened.... Everest releases in New Zealand on September 17, 2015" A high definition trailer links here - https://youtu.be/5ZQVpPiOji0 http://www.eliasaikaly.com/category/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/IMG_7080.jpg
  • Having just read the book, the movie will be hard to watch.
  • ha, a movie was made about the book years ago. it was hard to watch for all the wrong reasons. all hollywood climbing movies have been very unrealistic in their portrayal of mountaineering, I wonder how many climbers are out there as a result. they are like the man vs wild of the big screen. the recent movie on Hillary wasn't from Hollywood and was an exception , it was more of a documentary with reenactments, no lines were spoken by the actors..
  • Yeah. The NZ docu-drama was pretty good. Had to see it on the big screen, if not just to get the 3-D effect. With a mild Jan Arnold endorsement, maybe they'll do a decent job of it ?.
  • looking at the trailer the visibility looks too good during the storm, but i'll reserve judgment till i've seen the movie, it's unlikely to be as bad as the first one, it was b grade talent and budget.. you cant fault the actors in this one..
  • Must be amazingly hard conditions to film in, especially a storm, or the replication of a storm. Having tried a little action cam filming this season, it give's you a tiny taste of how challenging it can be filming in inclement weather.

  • i read about the making of it a while back, theres a fair bit of green screens, special effects and computer generated effects.

  • If you want a short factual account, there's a 22min short of a slideshow account by Dr Ken Kamler who was at base camp as a climber. As the only doctor on the mountain when the storm hit, he treated the survivors as they descended from Camp IV. https://youtu.be/Bgqc2m7aBzs "Into thin air" is there too, as a movie adaptation of the book. When they'adapt' or 'base' from a story, the facts get loose. Could well be, the 2nd story of Everest 1996 is how Hollywood plays it.
