Gronell Boots

  • Hi all Sorry if this is a re-post - my first seems to have disappeared. Has anyone had any experience with Gronell boots in general, and the Sportsman in particular? They are an Italian outfit. Bivouac stocks a couple of models. (http://www.bivouac.co.nz/footwear/mens-footwear/mens-boots/gronell-sportsman-tramping-boot.html) The photo on the website doesn't really do them justice - they are quite an attractive boot. I haven't found anything about them on this forum, and in fact there is very little about them on the internet generally. The few sites I have found, including their own, repute them to make great hiking and mountaineering boots. They are all sales orientated sites though. Bivouac has ordered in a 10.5UK for me, because, having tried the 10 and 11, I am squarely between them. I am yet to try the 10.5 but, assuming the fit is good, I won't likely be dissuaded at this point - it has been a long road for me, finding a decent boot. I know fit is the most important thing, which no one else can really help with, but I would be interested in any positive or negative experiences that others have had. Thanks in advance for any replies. M
  • From my experience the Italians always make really comfortable boots, i.e the most comfortable boots. Just if you are getting the full shank ones they might have a tiny bit of flex in them thats all.
  • Hi. I have a set of Gronell Annapurna boots that I use for winter ice climbing. I have used them for a season and they have held up well. I suffer from cold feet in a lot of other boots but the Gronells kept my feet warm and dry. They are designed for European Ice climbing which is typically a lot wetter than here in NZ (so I am told). Hope this helps.
  • Thanks very much both.
