Urchin track, Kaimanawas.

  • Hello, has anyone done the Urchin track lately? I was wondering what the road was like to the car park, and if there had been any trouble with security. Cheers.
  • The road is steep but easily doable in a non-lowered 2wd. Not sure about security but I didn't have any problems parking two nights there a couple of years back. If you're walking a loop with Umukarikari track, and you only have one car, think about bringing a bike cos the 6 kms from Urchin to Umikarikari is nearly all downhill.
  • Thanks mate. Was there a couple of weekends ago, and no problems. Just disappointing to see so much rubbish around some of the camp sites in the Waipakihi valley.
  • "Just disappointing to see so much rubbish around some of the camp sites in the Waipakihi valley" Bloody hunters. Some of the rock bivvies in Westland have been completely desecrated due to disrespectful, lazy, fly in hunters. Has anybody informed these ingrates that throwing cans in a fire will not destroy them?
  • Yes, these camp sites are most probably hunters. How ever, I am also a hunter/tramper myself, and you will never see where I have been. As with any group, there are always a few that make everyone look bad. To be honest, I think that firearm licences and hunting permits are to easy to get in N.Z. If it were more difficult, the lazy ones wouldn't bother to go "hunting".

  • You only have to read some of the posts over on http://www.fishnhunt.co.nz, most of which are completely indecipherable, to realise that some people just don't have the intelligence required to hold a firearms license.
