Haqii, I have been to all of these huts you mention. All still exist and the tracks to them are in all kinds of shape. If you need any info on how to find any of them let me know.
I went through Cashmores last spring deer stalking I too found it hard going, but character building greasy track especially heading down hill in places..

Thanks for posting that. There is some useful info there. Though I wish they wouldn't use the term CLOSED in relation to tracks. DOC actually have no authority to close tracks. It would be much better to say, we advise you not to go there.
Having said that that particular track could do with quite a spell its not that nice especially in the wet though I am one of those that take DOC'S notices as an indication only.
I was planning to go up the East Tuahu this weekend with some newbies to tramping. Going to have a rest weekend instead.
Has anyone got the new Kaimai - Mamakau map yet? I went into DOC Whangarei today only to be told they no longer stock publications for other regions.
Just been trying to find a copy of the map myself.
I made it my mission for this lunch hour and what an exercise in frustration.
Rotorua is the centre of the conservancy and on the edge of the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park. The local i-site which doubles as the DOC info centre only have the 2000 edition of the map. I rang the DOC Office and they only have 3 copies of the new map which are reserved for members of the Conservation Board. I tried to ring the Tauranga Office and only got the answer phone.
How the heck are they meant to sell any maps if it is like this!!

Send a cheque for $19 to DOC, PO Box 9003, Greerton, Tauranga and they will send you a copy of the map.
I have just ordered the new map online from the Auckland Map Centre. Have got maps from them before - good, prompt service.
