terrible huts

  • I think rats are less of a problem now that the rubbish holes are gone. I remember the piles that moved when the rubbish went in. Now theres nothing to keep them there when noones home
  • Yukky descriptions of rotting rat-infested huts. I've always thought it was 2 hours but maybe it takes these ratbags 3 hours to tramp to these huts carrying all their booze and cans of baked beans, bacon, sausages etc. Dillons Homestead in the Taipo now has a rubbish pit so I'll deal to it next time we're there. Every man and his 4WD can get there now and some young dreamers who fancied themselves to be possumers were likely the culprits who tossed the rubbish there.
  • Pinnancles Hut, Kauaeranga Valley for me. Flash looking place, decks galore and 80 bunks! Amongst the crowd was a large party of drunken 18-20 year olds and a bunch of women drinking and thinking they were cougars. Had taken my boys and the show was X-rated.
  • Sounds like a nightmare. I'd rather have rats than drunken hut-mates any day.
  • Tangihua hut in Northland. In the scheme of things, probably not all that bad, but it was stinking hot when we went in there, loads of huge blowflies all through the hut, suspect something had died in there. Nothing really going for it. Sorry Tangihua. But it's on my never again list.
  • 25 Mile Hut up the Ree's. Don't go out for the Privy, if you miss it you'll plunge 40m into the slot gorge.
  • Stayed last night in Crosbie's Hut. It's brand new, beautifully appointed, insulated, has a great view, plenty of firewood and warm. But I have to say it is the ugliest hut I have ever seen.
  • ooohh thats a bit tough its an architectural marvil designed to fit into its surroundings by a committee of very well educated people:)
  • What were they thinking? Looks like they copied the design from bach of the year. I am also confident however, that it was properly peer reviewed and discussed by a team of officials at a wine and cheese evening in Pauanui, before they were helicoptered to site for the official opening(catered of-course)!
  • I am not really being harsh. It's a wonderful hut in almost every respect. The only complaint I have is that it looks ugly from the outside. It does actually look quite nice from the inside.
