New Tent - 2 Person

  • Haven't used the two-person version, but I used the Wild Country Zephyros 1 on the NI section of TA last year, and it's currently my go-to tent. Zero issues with it. I'm about to go high-cost, with the Z Packs Hexamid Duo, but I want really light, really versatile, and a bit more room. About $1100 with the free-standing poles, shipping and currency conversion, I think it could be worth it.....
  • I have a Marmot Tungsten 2P and couldn't rave about it enough. It's incredibly easy and quick to pitch, very sturdy, and plenty of room for the boyf to be comfortable. No wear and tear or condensation. Waterproof in a torrential Australian 30min downpour but could not comment on a 12hr NZ drizzle.
  • My problems with those zpacks tents is how they say that rain sounds like bombs dropping on the tent. As it rains a lot here I'm not that keen on putting up with that. The price is a bit off putting too. The fact that it is quite see through is also a slight issue. Has anyone got one I'd like to here how they find them. Don't know how the marmot would fare here with a 2000mm floor rating. The macpac nautilus is on sale for $300. It is not a bad tent. And a good entry level tramping tent. Have a look at it before writing it off as a camping not tramping tent.

  • I don't care about the noise. I prefer sleeping somewhere with a tin roof rather than tile etc, for example. I love the thrum of heavy rain! Also, 10 years in submarines means I can sleep through pretty much anything. And I've literally slept beneath torpedoes; so something that SOUNDS like bombs dropping is not as worrisome as sleeping beneath an actual one. :P As for it being a bit see-through..... Well, I don't plan on doing anything in a tent other than reading, eating and sleeping. If you've got a partner and you're feeling amorous, wait til it's dark and turn the light off. ;)
  • I would be worried about the serial axe murderer watching me, not peeping toms. I must say I was a bit surprised the first time I saw a Z Pack tent how transparent and gossamer it looked but the light weight trumps all.
  • If someone makes the mistake of coming at me in my tent..... Well, let's just say I carry a large knife, and sleep with it within reach. ;)
  • Shit watch that knife around that Cuban fibre haha.
  • Of course! Too be sure, it's not unsheathed. But it's good to go. Actually comes from tenting in Australia and Asia. Where wild beasties are far more likely to attack than PAMs.
  • Crocodile Kreig!? lol
