Boots to fit wide, narrow, bunions, or wide toes!

  • I recently bought some Hanwag Tatra Wide GTX boots from good old Rollo's Outdoors in Nelson - fantastic! http://www.hanwag.com/tatra-wide-gtxr#details This German company has been making mountain boots for over 90 years and they seem to have recently arrived in NZ. Not only do their boots come in narrow, normal or wide but also for bunions and for those with wide toes. One of the guys in Rollos had been wearing them for a year or so and swears by them so I'm giving them a go. Not cheap at something over $500 (nearer 600 without discount) but worth it if you have weird shaped feet like I do. I tried them alongside the Asolo 535 wides (which you may recollect I had before but they shed their soles.) The Hanwags were way more comfortable especially as they give a 'rolling' walk which my podiatrist had said I needed to get. Gave them a one day work out up in the snow on Sunday and zero problems. For the last year or two I have suffered from sore soles (ageing reduces the sole, muscle padding) and had none on Sunday. I think that is because I bought a bigger pair of boots which required 2 pairs of socks (just like the old days! lol ) Hopefully they will last a bit better than the Asolos
  • I have enough trouble getting size 15/16 to fit let alone a size larger to enable to pair of sock to help cushion the feet.
