Trailbabies: Tramping with baby or toddler

We got over tramping with our baby pretty quick. We got a half dozen in before he turned one but we got over it, it's hard smashing through scrub with a baby sticking out the top of your pack. He's so heavy, plus he takes up a whole pack on his own. We are constantly worried with tripping over roots, river crossings, exposure, rain etc. The missus and I can't wait till he is old enough to stay with his nanny for the night so we can get back into overnighters in the Tarrys and ruahine. We spent this summer in a tent on my missus land up past Te kaha. The diving and fishing were good, as was the weather.
