gondola to remarkables skifield

I'd be careful where I sited a snow cave on the Remarkables, I've heard stories from the avalanche control people going up in a helicopter and about to toss a bomb out the door at the top of a slope when people have emerged from a hole in said snow slope.

A few years ago I read how some guys were staying in a snow mound they'd made in a carpark on a skifield in the States when a groomer accidently groomed their 'mogul' during the night. That was the end of them unfortunately.

@Ian_H The Skyline Gondola is owned by Skyline Enterprises. The Remarkables ski-field is owned by NZSKI, which is owned by Trojan Holdings. Skyline and Trojan are different companies, different owners. I agree though that Trojan would be likely to support this, as parking and the road to the skifield can be bottlenecks.

I have skied at the Tukino ski field for a week while camping in a tent near the base. I think we also built an igloo for a cooking/ communal area but retired to our tents to sleep.

@TheGoodLife: My understanding is that Trojan Holdings, NZSKI and Skyline Enterprises are all under the control of John Davies / the Davies Family. Sure they may be separate companies but the controlling shareholding of all three is virtually the same. Edited to add: OK, I could be wrong about Skyline Enterprises, I was sure he was part of that. A search for "Skyline Enterprises John Davies" doesnt come up with any links as far as I can see. It's sometimes hard to know the background division of ownerships for these companies, shareholdings are held privately, not publicly on the stock market.

The Davies family own a number of tourism companies, via a variety of shareholdings, but not Skyline. They do own NZSKI, the Hermitage Hotel, and the private guided walks on the Milford and Routeburn tracks.
