Ashburton Glacier

  • Hi I'm planning a trip in to the Ashburton Glacier, passing by Boundary Creek hut, then on to Top Hut, and then on to the base of the Glacier. From photos I've seen, there appears to be a good campsite by a large boulder, and looking at the map the approach from Top Hut doesn't look very steep. Has anyone done this? I wouldn't be going up onto the glacier, as I don't have those skills, or rope, to make it safe.
  • Have a look at these links. This will give you a fair idea about what the terrain is like up there: http://www.southernalpsphotography.com/Tramping/Mt-Cook-to-Arthurs-Pass/Mt-Arrowsmith-traverse/ http://www.southernalpsphotography.com/Tramping/Mt-Cook-to-Arthurs-Pass/Cameron-South-Ashburton/i-qGrMqzC http://www.southernalpsphotography.com/Tramping/Mt-Cook-to-Arthurs-Pass/Mt-Arrowsmith-Attempt/
  • Thanks!
