  • Thanks for those Tararua maps @TararuaHunter. Had a brief look this morning and uploaded the 1936 Tararua Mountain System map onto the site. http://mapspast.org.nz/mapsheet/70/?zoom=10&x=1807392&y=5481390 That looks good despite being a folded map. I was afraid there might be a lot of distortion when scanning folded maps, but the trig'd high points I looked at all line up fine with the modern maps, so it must be a good, accurate scan. Will get the rest of the Tararua maps you sent up this week, then I'll go looking at other people's offerings to see if there are any gaps we can fill.

  • Tracked down another interesting map. An 1865 topographical map showing routes between Canterbury and the West Coast. An interesting browse for anyone who's bored ... http://mapspast.org.nz/mapsheet/86/?zoom=9&x=1504300&y=5230941 There are another couple of old (pre-1900) sheets added today too, a plan of the peaks and glaciers surrounding Mt Cook (1889): http://mapspast.org.nz/mapsheet/87/?zoom=12&x=1369433&y=5162362 And Broderick's 1897 survey of a route to the West Coast via the pass that bears his name: http://mapspast.org.nz/mapsheet/88/?zoom=12&x=1341457&y=5133794
