Four years into tramping adventures and we are going strong as ever. With our children getting older (13 and 10), we have been able to do more challenging and multiday tramps. We are trying to explore all areas of NZ, coastal, bush and mountain. Our favourites remain Lake Waikareiti and Whirinaki, though Pouakai Range and surrounds are close seconds.
The biggest problem is finding the time and getting out of Auckland.
Te Rereatukahia Loop Track
Track.
1 – 2 days. Easy/medium. Loop track.
A great overnighter on nice days. Clockwise (starting with Tuahu Track to the hut and heading back on the North South Track) is easier as the gradient is a lot more gentle.

Day tramps on a series of tracks through regenerating broad leaf forest. Mataitai Conservation area is a short way from Auckland, suitable for the reasonably fit and adventurous. The track system is very good, though no map is available at ...
