I remember when we were kids, we would hike up to either Fields Hut or Kapanui Hut with a dozen beers each no prob haha we used to annoy old crusty trampers
I might of met you then 2 years ago in Powel hut (or was that someone else)
That tradition amongst young trampers is still alive and well. Have to be honest I did it myself 35 years ago
I think Powell Hut is a magnet for that...we did that too with a bottle of Southern Comfort. Although we did try not to disturb others there.
Waking up with a hangover and knowing you have a good 6 hours tramp ahead of you isnt the greatest feeling :-)
I think the new booking system has reduced that at Powell but it will just of moved somewhere else.
I have to say though out of the 3 groups that were in the hut that night (one group had finished a dozen cans each by trip arrival One didnt start drinking till they got there but soon caught up and a woman with 2 kids Plus 8 of us from the tramping club) the 2 drinking groups did do a great job tidying in the morning The woman and kids must of been the worst slobs ever met in a hut.
haha na not me, must have been at least 15 years ago now.
A portion of us that is unlikely to ever be revealed have done the same.
Plenty of people think a bottle of coke thats 1/3 rum/burbon/whisky is 1.5-2.25kg well spent ;-)
These days Id rather take a good merlot although I have a couple of 750ml soft water bottles from our not so favourite glamping store to carry it in.
