Can anyone tell me about the macetown campground?
Is it on the river edge?

I recall it is above the river a few metres but next to it. Many tent sites amongst large trees and grass. I don't recall any facilities except toilets.
Was there in November after doing Motatapu. Two toilets - one at junction of Rich Burn and Arrow rivers and the other up the hill amongst some ruins. We camped by the river - a good spot but take sandfly protection. If you can, collect a DOC book called "Macetown and Arrow Gorge" from Arrowtown Museum before you go. It describes all the numbered historical sites in the area. A great place to spend an extra day exploring especially if you have that information booklet.
