This track starts next to a conspicuous patch of pakihi next to the Ōkārito road and climbs easily along a moraine wall. The look out at the end of the track is surrounded by handsome forest. Inland, the Minarets are visible, with Mount Tasman and then Cook further to the right. From here, Tasman looks slightly taller.

This area is home to the rowi (Ōkārito brown kiwi), the rarest kiwi with just 375 individuals, all living near Ōkārito.
