Scrubby Hut

Scrubby Hut (4 bunk, matresses, tank/stream water, fireplace, limited scrubby firewood) is a private station hut on a small mound overlooking flats in the Hunter Valley. It is open for public use - though you may be best to check with the station before walking in. It looks tatty from the outside, with rusting iron walls / roof, but is watertight and well maintained within.

The hut is popular with hunters, but also makes a good resting place for trampers heading up or down the Hunter Valley, or crossing into the Makarora or Ahuriri via passes to the east and west. The river below the hut is easily crossable in most conditions.
