Bullendale Hut

Bullendale, or The Reefs, was a goldrush town centred around the Phoenix Mine on Skippers Creek. The town sprang up in the 1860s, and had a population of 107 by 1896. When the mine closed in 1901, the town was abandoned. Much of the iron was stripped during World War I shortages, and only two huts remain.

This hut features corrugated iron walls, beech pole framing, and schist floor and fireplace. The hut was destroyed by wind in 1998 and rebuilt using the original materials.

Note that heavy metals from mining operations are present in Murdochs Creek, and rivers are not safe for drinking. The hut has a water tank.
