mantis When I was there in May 2010 there were at least 4 different Kiwi calling during the night in the valley upstream from the hut

pmcke The track goes past the hut and, although over grown, is marked with orange triangles. We followed it for about half an hour as per this GPX. Looking at an old map I suspect it goes up the other tributary and comes out on the army land. Someone with a bit of time at the hut might want to check this out.
