Te Ekaou Hut
Ruahine Forest Park
Te Ekaou Hut in the southern Ruahines - one of few surviving bushedge huts in the Ruahines. Accessed across private land, or by a 2-4 hour walk up marginal strips along either Te Ekaou Stream or Makawakawa Stream. A good track leads from here to Forks Hut, from where a route / track heads to the top end of Takapari Road.
A tidy and spacious ex-forestry hut, sleeping 6 on bunks. Tank water and a wood burner - plenty of firewood around.
