Aparima Forks Hut / Aparima Biv
Aparima Forks Hut (2 bunk, fireplace, river water, firewood available) is a standard Takitimu two-bunker: beds on the far wall, fireplace on the left, window / table on the right. About the only modification is that two cooking-oil tins have been shaped into a woodburner / flue which sits in the fireplace and does not smoke - luxury. Water is from the Aparima river 20m away and firewood is plentiful.
Heading up the Aparima valley from Aparima Huts, the marked track crossing to the true right just before the forks. This is the track to the hut. Continuing on the true left will lead you to the saddle into Whare Creek by an unmarked but well traveled route / track.
Other options from the hut involve travelling up the South Branch from the hut - this is also easy going on animal tracks as far as the bushline. Passes from the valley head lead to the Spence and Redcliff and their respective huts. The Takitimu main ridge is also navigable south to either hut.
