Ruahine Corner Hut
Ruahine Forest Park
A six bunk, typical forestry style hut in the northern Ruahine Ranges, surrounded by a huge verandah, and an absolutely unique location.
Ruahine Hut should be approached from the south, preferably after days of walking though the forested valleys and rough pointed ridgelines of the Ruahine ranges. The visitor follows a typical bluff-edged ridgeline from Potae through mixed forest. Dropping to marshy flats: low trees, verdant, varied, punctuated by occasional giants of miro and totora.
Then suddenly it ends. And in front of you is nothing but tussock. An expanse of yellow tussock tops disappear into the sun-haze in the distance. Not a tree to be seen.
This is Ruahine Corner.
