Scamper Torrent hut
This is a tidy four bunk hut in the head basin of Scamper Torrent. S T is a tributary of Whirling Water which in turn flows to the Waitaha River at Kiwi Flat above the Morgan Gorge.
The hut is in a top spot. It is worth visiting just to see the basin it sits in but it also gives access via the Smyth Range to the Wanganui River and Waitaha headwater tributaries Moonbeam Torrent and County Stream.

Getting there
|
From the end of Allen Rd on the TL bank of the Waitaha River park up near the gate & follow a vehicle track through farmland. Cut SE to the river at the end of the paddocks rather than taking the track shown on the map. Walk up the Waitaha River edge then after Douglas Creek you will pick up markers and bits of track that take you to Kiwi Flat. The track to Scamper Torrent starts at the bottom end of Kiwi Flat on the TR of Labyrinth Creek. *More detailed info is available at the Permolat site. |
