Top Toaroha hut
This hut is located on the Bannatyne Flats towards the head of the Toaroha River. It is on the main valley track about an hour below the Toaroha Saddle & within a days walk of the roadend.
This is a fairly typical circa 1970 NZFS six bunk hut that has had its open fire replaced with a stove. It replaced the former Top Toaroha hut which was also on the TL of the Toaroha but about 30 mins down river. The "Old" Top T hut lingered on for a long time but was demolished in the 80's?

Getting there
|
Quickest walk in is via the main valley Toaroha track which is maintained by DOC or their contractors. (It takes most parties a day to get to the hut if carrying full packs) The road end for this track start is the end of Middlebranch Road which turns south off Upper Kokatahi Road. There is a large DOC sign at this turn off. |
