Montgomerie hut

Victoria Forest Park

This hut is located at the junction of the Montgomerie and Waitahu Rivers. There is 4x4 or mountain bike access up the TR of the Waitahu River all the way to the hut. It can be part of a circuit walk from the Capleston carpark incorporating the well known Kirwans hut and various gold and coal mining relics.

1. Easiest: end of Gannons Road which leaves SH69 just north of Reefton at the sawmill. Drive to end of this road. (Sep.22: 4wd road partly washed out due to river erosion. When tramping: some detours required.) 2.Track from Kirwans hut via Kirwans Creek & Montgomerie River but that is the long way to get to this hut and the info is only provided for those interested in a round trip.
