Lower Arahura hut
A new DOC 6 bunk hut that replaces the old 4 bunk NZFS hut. The new hut is 30m east of where the old hut was.
The old hut was dismantled by the Kokatahi Tramping Group/Mt Brown Community Hut Project Team & has been re-erected on Mt Brown ridge behind Lake Kaniere.

Getting there
|
Up the main valley Arahura track. Parts of this track are on an old benched pack track. It takes c. 2hrs to walk in from the Council road. The track starts at the first gateway on the right after crossing the Arahura River bridge at Milltown. You can start walking from the Council road here or drive the 4x4 track to a parking area near the swingbridge. Note that the Milltown road branches off the Lake Kaniere road & there is not public vehicle access from the roads lower down the Arahura. |
