Honora Yep, Doug. We did a similar circuit, camping in that same lovely basin. I wrote it up as:

Great to see you've marked in the entire circuit. I guess it was using a GPS as opposed to my hand-drawn speculations!

DouglasJWoods Just completed a two trip from Discovery Stream to Sudden Valley via NW branch. From the junction need to keep to bush on true right to avoid water falls, returning to stream at the bush line. Then sidle up shingle slopes on true right to tarn in upper basin (need to stay above the gorge that the stream enters). We camped in the basin. Next day up to point 1937 and along ridge, one small detour on west to the saddle between 1876 and Mt Scott. Then down (snow slope for us, and shingle later in season) to Sudden valley. Very pleasant weekend trip with great high tarn camp. I have attached track of our route.

Honora A PTC pal went up the 30m waterfall route which he was able to bypass. The gnarly ridge he gained was unable to let him select a route down to the Sudden Valley so he retreated.
Nothing wrong with the route featured in the article in late Spring/Early September while there is still snow in that gully though.

Ancient Tramper Well done Honora.
It certainly looks like tiger country from the standard Tarn Col circuit. A bit more confirmed route data, and some of us lesser mortals might venture up there too.

Honora Just marked our route descending the NW tributary on a jpg. titled "The Descent Route of the NW Tributary of Discovery Stream". Some people are having fun and games with the waterfalls in this tributary and this route avoids those dramas.

Honora Checked out the latest edition of Sven's route guide and note the seasonally dodgy route featuring in the above article has now been discarded and a new route is described. It is even longer and more to the east than Pat Barrat's. It involves descending via the NW tributary of Discovery Stream. I've pretty much done that route.
