Heritage lodge (sleeps 8, tank water, wood stove) is a modern (2007) tramping hut in the Ruahine Ranges. It was built by the NZDA with money from the family of Alice Nash - hence the name.

The building has 2 sections, only one of which is open to the public (the other is for NZDA members only). The public section sleeps 8 on two platforms, and is nicely finished: tongue and groove walls instead of the usual three-ply, and a generous veranda, for example. DOC hut passes / tickets are accepted, as are cheques /cash to NZDA.

Though the area is forested, dry firewood is hard to find.

Overlooking the bush-clad Oroua, it's a pleasant view, but not the most exciting spot for a hut. However the very easy access makes it a good one for young kids, or for a night time walk in and early start to elsewhere. A 2-day loop to Iron Gate via the Tunupo tops and the Oroua valley is possible from the hut.
