Dundas Hut
Dundas Hut (4 bunk) sits in one of the best spots of any hut in the North Island. It perches on a small ledge just beneath the Tararua main divide with a clear view of the percipituous faces of Pukemoremore and Dome. With a touch of snow it's an amazing sight. It catches the 1st of the morning sun, but loses it early in the afternoon, so bring plenty of warm clothes, you're in rock and tussock so there's no fire.
When approaching the hut from the Main Ridge, note that the hut is NOT below Dundas Peak, but is reached by following the poled spur west from the unnamed peak between Logan and Pukemoremore. In poor visibility try to the locate warratahs on this summit and take a bearing off your map: you won't go far wrong. A poled track drops north off this spur to the hut about 200m from the summit.
Other than the main ridge, the hut can be reached from Rorring Stag Lodge either via Cattle Ridge, or up the Ruamahanga River to where the track to Dundas crosses it.
