Demon Trail Hut
Fiordland National Park
Demon Trail Hut (serviced, 12 bunks, stove, firewood) marks the southern end of the infamous Demon Trail. Between the Hollyford roadend and here the Hollyford Track plods easily along the broad valley floor. However, the section between Demon Trail Hut and Hokuri leaves the valley floor and sidles climbing and falling along the valleyside. This should present no difficulties for even moderately fit walkers: most NZ tramps have much worse. However, for those after a pleasent valley stroll, or those simply wishing to see the lake, the Hollyford track Company offers jet-boat travel down the McKerrow Lake bypassing this section.
The Demon Trail has several side-creek crossings. All but one have wet-weather walkwires or bridges for high river conditions, but the one reamaining creek may pose difficulties in extreme conditions (only).
