Heather Jock Hut
Whakaari Conservation Area
A small miner's hut high on Mount Alaska, near Glenorchy. This little-used hut combines easy access with spectacular panoramic views of The Humboldt Mountains, and Mounts McIntosh and Earnslaw.
This hut was constructed in the 1930s to service the nearby scheelite (tungsten ore) mine, and was shifted to its current location in the 1940s.
