A hut on the bushline with great views, well worth the up-hill grunt to get there.Even more spectacular when visited during the winter but add some extra time because of the conditions.

Getting there

From Lake Rotoiti take the lake walk to the Lake Head hut (2-3hrs) continue up the true right until the swingbridge crossing the river and follow track to John Tait hut (4-5 hrs).Stay on the track to Upper Travers hut but 20 - 30min beyond John Tait take the fork leading to the Cupola Basin(sign posted), it is another steep 2hrs up to the hut. |
